Amazon Opens New Offices in Historic Lord Taylor Building
Iconic Department Store Transformed into Tech Hub
Mayor Adams Welcomes Amazon to Midtown Manhattan
The former Lord Taylor building in Midtown Manhattan has been transformed into the new home for Amazon's New York Tech headquarters. The 11-story commercial building, which was built in 1914, served as Lord Taylor's flagship department store for over a century.
On Tuesday, Amazon announced that it had purchased the building from WeWork and would open a 630,000-square-foot office space in the building. The move is part of Amazon's continued investment in New York City, where it already employs over 5,000 people.
"We are thrilled to be opening our new offices in the historic Lord Taylor building," said Amazon spokesperson Matt Johnson. "This building is a landmark in Midtown Manhattan, and we are honored to be a part of its future."
New York City Mayor Eric Adams welcomed Amazon to Midtown Manhattan. "Amazon's decision to open new offices in the Lord Taylor building is a testament to the strength of New York City's economy," said Mayor Adams. "We are excited to have Amazon as a part of our community, and we look forward to working with them to create jobs and opportunities for all New Yorkers."
